WCP PNG was founded in 2023 by Dr Eleanor (Ella) Gahanao and Nevelle Gahanao. During their work in Papua New Guinea (PNG) they were struck and deeply saddened by the number of young women who lost their lives to cervical cancer. Most of these women were presenting at a very late stage, which meant there were limited or no treatment options. It was clear that many of these deaths could have been prevented with relatively simple interventions, such as screening programmes and education, resulting in earlier detection.
WCP PNG have two nurses and 20 trained WCP Champions in different villages across Morobe Province.
WCP PNG is a Christian charity aiming to improve the healthcare and lives of women in PNG.
